IPTV video distribution for corporate, healthcare facilities and hospitality

IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is an umbrella term for services and applications that enable TV viewing over the Internet Protocol. This technology offers the possibility to use an existing network for distributing tv and radio channels, videos, digital signage and internet content. IPTV content is send via LAN and WAN. IPTV is used in corporate, healthcare facilities, hospitality and at event venues such as stadiums.

Business applications

IPTV is used in, for example, hotels, to display TV signals or an internal video channel in hotel rooms.
In companies, internal video channels are often set up and shown via IPTV on screens in public areas. Workstations are also equipped with IPTV so that, for example, TV channels are available to every employee. This allows employees to make the best decisions based on up-to-date information.

In stadiums and event venues, the live action is combined with special programmes and advertisements from sponsors and rss feeds can be shown in dedicated reception areas such as the Sky Boxes.

Advantages of business IPTV solutions

  • Cost effective: IPTV can make use of an existing network
  • Flexible and scalable through modular construction
  • Interactive functions: video on demand, missed broadcast and time shifting
  • Quick to implement and expand
  • IPTV multicast: saves on bandwidth by streaming each channel once (regardless of the number of viewers)
  • Better security: certain channels or videos can be blocked (temporarily)
  • Extensive control and management options
  • Stream content outside a wired network: TV viewing via a tablet or smartphone

What is needed for IPTV?

A source for an IPTV system can be a provider, satellite headend, PC, Blu-Ray player or camera. Is your source a satellite dish? Then a gateway is used to convert a DVB signal to IP; an encoder is used to convert the signal to IP with sources such as a PC, media player or camera.

You also need an IP distribution network. Usually this is an existing computer network with UTP cabling or a wireless network.

Finally, you choose the device from which you view the distributed signal. This can be mobile devices, but also a PC or a (smart) TV. Intronics will be happy to advise you.
